Day 55 – 72: Santiago - Salta
5626km from Fin Del Mundo With the stresses of our lengthy stop off in Santiago behind us we left the amazingly kind and extended hospitality of John and Mitzi Bell to slip back into our cycling and camping routine. We were not however eased back in lightly to our days in the saddle. Before us lay one of the biggest physical challenges that we would surely encounter on the trip as a whole, not to say our lives! Day 35 – 55: Stage 2 – ‘Puerto Montt - Santiago’
4005km from Fin Del Mundo Twenty days since Puerto Montt and the end of the Carretera Austral the UTA team have made it to Santiago! Nearly a third of the way through the trip, Santiago has been a huge milestone in our minds since we started back in Ushuaia. Having covered 4005km and 32,982 vertical metres (4 x the height of Everest) in 50 long days of cycling, we were all ecstatic to finally arrive!
